I can always look forward to the closing event on my motorsports calendar each year. Three full days of hard racing in the scorching Summer sun in Sydney. That was until 2017, when the gates opened and pit lane wound to life for the inaugural Supercars Coates Hire Newcastle 500. My first time in Newcastle (despite only being a few hours drive from Sydney), the scene was set and I was not disappointed. The finish to the season was a tight and eventful one, with the title hopeful Scott McLaughlin clashing with veteran Craig Lowndes in the dying stages of the final race. Jamie Whincup took out his seventh Championship, cementing himself as the greatest of all time in the Series. If Newcastle was any indication of what the 2018 season will be, I say bring it on!
